Believe in the impossible

I bet you can always tell when my post is a Living Lovely challenge post - they are always the best topics! Thank you Heidi for creating these wonderful challenges.

I have horrible plant/garden withdrawals during winter. I love to grow things and since my usual shop where I get paperwhite bulbs hadn't had them yet I decided to try something new while I wait. I bought this pot awhile back and it had been sitting outside getting stained and ugly...er...than normal. :)

Spray paint magic and now it matches the rest of my indoor pots.

What I wanted to try was planting some lavender seeds I harvested at the beginning of fall. I have a TON of them saved and had never tried lavender from seed before.

After I got my pot painted and filled with potting soil I googled for info on planting lavender seeds and had my hopes immediately crushed with the article I read. It basically said that they are difficult to grow from seed because not many of them germinate. I was sad but thought about the work I'd already done and how successful all of my gardening endeavors had been lately. I decided to ignore the article and try it anyway.

I sprinkled a pinch (which contains quite a few seeds because they are tiny!) into my pot and moistened their dirt. Then I put them in my bathroom where they will be next to a heat vent and get sunlight all day. Then I went house-sitting for two weeks. I confess I'd forgotten about it but when I returned home look what awaited me!

I'm so proud of my little lavender sprouts! How fun will it be to nurture my little lavender all winter. And how glad am I that I decided to ignore that article and believe in the impossible? :)

  6. good for you molly! way to believe! i so much enjoy your blog. and i'm going to enjoy the fact that you have a bathroom heat vent (we heat with wood and the stove's in the kitchen. the bathroom can get a little cold) AND a window that the sun shines into (my only bathroom window looks out into the carport and is on the wrong side of the house for sunshine). course, i'm a little jealous too but hey! i'm glad YOU have it!!
