When we went to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (more info here) they had boxes and boxes of bathroom and kitchen tiles for super reasonable. Mom picked these out - they were ten cents a tile.
I lined them up on a piece of eco-felt (cork would work great too but we weren't having any luck finding any)...
Traced around them with a pen - even a regular pen in blue or black will show up on this dark brown felt.
And then I glued the felt to the tiles using some plain white glue.
Once the glue was dry I trimmed the edges...
And now she has a fabulous set of six coasters for around a dollar!
Hurray for bright ideas at the opportune moment. :) Linking to:
Unfortunately, my furniture is beyond the need for coasters but I still think this is a brilliant idea! If I ever get nice tables, I'm definitely doing this! ;)
ReplyDeleteHmm I think I'd like some of those too ... really not sure if I could make them though. I was thinking of knitting some.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore! I really need to check that out!
ReplyDeleteVery cute idea with the coasters, by the way :)
Love, love, love!! Now to remember this trick when I no longer have to be concerned about toddlers sneaking coasters into their mouths. Had to get rid of my last set of coasters because I was worried Aurelia would hurt herself with them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love it! So simple but so classic! Well done. I love the Restore!
ReplyDeleteHi Molly,
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to make these. Maybe even decoupage something on them too??? Anyway, how sweet of you to make these for your mom.
I'm finally back to blog-hopping again. I hope all is well with you.
