Ghost riders in the sky?

I am a sky gazer - constantly seeing what the sun, clouds, moon and stars are up to so I end up with a ton of sky photos. This one I had to share, the clouds at the bottom look like three curved horse necks and heads of cloud horses running across the sunset. The pink at the bottom of them like the sun is glinting off their bellies as they rear to run faster.

At least that's what they look like to me. I have a pretty good imagination. :)

New-to-me goodies

I'm not sure why but I've been obsessed really interested in finding an old pyrex mug to drink my coffee out of. My local Goodwill never has them. I've been looking for months and I just don't see them. But I went to visit my mom and at that Goodwill we found all kinds of goodies.

Like a mug I was wanting...

These salt and pepper shakers which are going into my tea party stash. I paid $2.99 for the pair, looked up the name online and found similar ones for $44.00. Um yes I believe I DO like my price better.

Speaking of tea parties, we also found this fun book.

Once we'd mined Goodwill for all she was worth we headed to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. These places sell donated items and give the money for the Habitat for Humanity cause. Click here for more information. The one we visited had a great selection of home improvement items of every kind.

I bought my friend a hook for her kitchen for 25 cents (no photo). These wooden caster wheels were 25 cents for the pair.

This light fixture cover was a dollar. It has a steampunk vibe to it and I'm going to make a display out of it. I'm loving that dome!

Thrifty coasters

Do you squirm when you see someone set a glass on the furniture? My mom does, and she needed some coasters but couldn't find any that fit her style or were thrifty enough for her to buy. Not even Goodwill! I heard that collective gasp. ;)

When we went to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (more info here) they had boxes and boxes of bathroom and kitchen tiles for super reasonable. Mom picked these out - they were ten cents a tile.

I lined them up on a piece of eco-felt (cork would work great too but we weren't having any luck finding any)...

Traced around them with a pen - even a regular pen in blue or black will show up on this dark brown felt.

And then I glued the felt to the tiles using some plain white glue.

Once the glue was dry I trimmed the edges...

And now she has a fabulous set of six coasters for around a dollar!

Hurray for bright ideas at the opportune moment. :)

Mosaic Monday - mountains and lakes

I went to visit my mom in Central Oregon and we spent our week fixing up the house and thrift shopping. One gorgeous day, though, we decided to get out and SEE so we drove up to Paulina and East lakes and enjoyed the views, the sparse population (not many campers the last week of September), and the warm sunshine. All in all a gorgeous day!

Be sure to visit Little Red House to see all the beautiful mosaics!

Sweet Papaya

If you find yourself in the Oregon state capital I hope you'll take the time to look up Sweet Papaya.

My friend and I went and had "lunch" - it's a self-serve frozen yogurt place which is why lunch is in those nudge nudge wink wink quotation marks.

There's a wall of machines full of flavors of sorbet and frozen yogurt and then there's a bar of fresh fruit, a bar of candy toppings and a rack of sauce/topping bottles. Your goodies are weighed at the end and that determines cost. I didn't get a photo of any of this stuff because I was holding a little one part of the time.

Does it sound enticing? How about this:

I put mango sorbet in the bottom because mango is one of my absolute favorite flavors. It came out SUPER slow from the machine so when I then decided I wanted a swirl of coconut and a swirl of pineapple I thought it would be the same. Um no. Hence my giant cup full. But I ate all of it, oh yes I did. ;)

Oh and fresh kiwi topping. Fruit extravaganza! Yay!

The place is also little one approved. :)
