Birdcaged books

I completely fell in love with the [romantic redo] on the bedroom at Memento Designs and it got the hamster wheel turning...

A little browsing showed me [this] bird cage desk organizer by Ballard Design (and I guess it isn't sold anymore?) and the color sang to me as sweetly as any little bird would.

But before it was this...

It was this slightly bent (okay it is still slightly bent, but you didn't notice, did you?) birdcage stand that was found behind my neighbor's house in a bunch of tall grass after they moved. They had a ton of stuff and told us "go check it out!" when they left. Which is how I got approximately a zillion terra cotta pots.

It has this nifty little hook at the top and lots of cobwebs! :) But those are from being in storage at my house for...oh my...years.

The thrift store birdcage was in the grape arbor and looking worse for wear. I emptied the dead plants out of it.

Yes, I think this will do nicely!

The base was pretty rough but I actually liked the look of it. Too bad my black spray paint I used on the wrought iron decided to have a gleek attack and spit black speckles all over it.

Oh well oil-rubbed bronze to the rescue!

It looks black, but has such a nice, subtle metallic finish that I like it with the plain black stand.

The cage was painted a jaunty color called Blue Sky (Painter's Touch by Rust-Oleum) since it had developed some serious rust hanging in the arbor all year.

With that done I set to filling it with some books and a bouquet of book page paper flowers that I'd made.

I like the bright, fun color against the black of the iron.

I have so many books I can use all the storage space I can get!

Hi Molly! :) Glad you liked my pantry re-do! (and I do find myself going in there and just opening the door to stare at it LOL....don't even need the excuse of grabbing a snack, I just stand, stare and smile!) It's amazing how much better I feel when my surroundings are in order.
Hey, your bird cage is adorable! I have one in our bedroom, but need to figure out something to put inside of it...it's just empty right now. I do have some old embroidered linens hanging across it though...they're pretty. :)
Hope you have a great day!
Missy ;)

Cute! I love the shade of blue you used, especially against the aged books inside the cage :).

Oh how I would have loved to be at the house with you when you went through the tall grass and weeds to find your treasures. I have three of these birdcage stands and just love them. I have chandeliers in two of them...you will have to check out my guest bedrooms. While at my blog, I have a giveaway going on. Terry
PS...love the outcome of the birdcage and the books in it are so sweet.

This is so sweet, I want one. Such a clever and unique way to display books. And you could change it up for holidays too.

So fun, Sarah
